Dear Jeremy Vine of BBC Radio 2,
It has been brought to my attention (by Doris who works part time in the post office, who heard it from her sister, Alice, who lives in Great Yarmouth and is quite up on these things) that you have switched sides. Apparently you are now "one of them” - a lockdown sceptic! I am writing to confirm if this is true?
What I was actually told, though I find it hard to believe, is that in order to prove that you have been a lockdown sceptic since the beginning of the pandemic you have “tweeted” (I wouldn’t know as I can barely turn on a computer) examples of your lockdown-scepticism from your radio show over the last couple of years. I am troubled by this on many levels, and I can tell you that Mrs Trevor in Trimley was so shocked that she has taken to her bed since hearing the news.
I’m not surprised by her reaction at all. There’s nothing Mrs Trevor in Trimley enjoys more than sitting down with a nice brew and a crumpet each day at noon to listen to you on the radio. Her discovery that you have been “one of them” the whole time comes as something of a major shock. She has listened to nearly every minute of your show and never questioned that you were anything other than a rock solid “one of us.” Off the top of my head I can think of numerous examples where you called out all sorts of idiots who rang in with varying degrees of scepticism about the intensity of the pandemic, the lockdown measures, and the safety and efficacy of the vaccines, and you obliterated them all with a condescending BBC smugness that Mrs Trevor in Trimley cheered on with joy. Indeed, there have been several times over the last two years when we have retired to bed at the end of the day, and with our heads resting gently on our pillows, I have heard my wife say to me, “Jeremy showed that idiot who rang in what for, didn’t he?” And I have replied, “He did love, he most certainly did.” And then we’d both sink into a peaceful sleep safe in the knowledge that you were out there defending the good citizens of this great nation from the conspiracy theory nutters. So, to be quite honest, not only are we both shocked to hear that all this time you might have been one of them yourself, we also now feel rather exposed! If we can’t rely on the BBC to impartially quash the voice of the other side where are we supposed to turn?
I suppose you have your reasons for doing what you’ve done, but I fear you have not considered in appropriate depth the rocky road you are now on. Heed my words, as your position at the BBC could soon be under threat. Unless the whole of the BBC is going to start pretending that it was never fully behind the government for the duration of the pandemic, it’s going to be pretty difficult for you to go around claiming you were always “one of them.” Your bosses will have you out Jeremy! Alternatively, and perhaps you’re a step ahead of me here, if the BBC as a whole is planning to pretend that it was never behind the government on their pandemic measures then you might be in luck. Laura Kuenssberg, on the other hand, will be buggered. There’ll be no explaining away her Cbeebies questions to the government for the last two years, so in that event she’ll end up being the one who goes. I personally found her performance heroic, but that won’t change her plight should the Beeb decide to start giving succour to the sceptics. No, no, no, I’m afraid the way this is shaping up means it’s now a war between you and Laura. Don’t worry Jeremy, you can take her! In fact, I have a plan to help you out.
‘Why would I do this for you?’ I hear you ask. While it’s true that I am not best pleased with you right now, I am a loyal sort of cove and don’t want to see you drown in a brown sea of your own mess. So here’s my one-time offer to, a man who used to be at least, a fellow warrior in the cause of our nation’s splendid ‘Nudge Unit.’
If you want, I’ll ring into your show this week and pretend to be a loony anti-vax, anti-lockdown, anti-mask, anti-PCR test type, and you can make it clear then and there whose side you are really on. If you want to put your oar in with the anti-lockdown / anti-vax types then so be it. All you have to do is sincerely apologise to your caller (me) for all the ways you’ve denied airtime, distorted and disparaged the views of people who share “my” opinions. I reckon the nutters will welcome you with open arms following a genuine apology like that. Alternatively, if you decide to return to your original position, then that’s no problem at all. You just treat me in the usual patronising manner you have done for the last two years and your position will be clear to everyone.
I look for forward to speaking to you!
Best regards,
Trevor from Trimley St Mary
P.S. Obviously I won’t be saying I’m Trevor from Trimley when I call in. I don’t want to be recognised by fellow Trimleyites when coming out with such wacky ideas on national radio, so you’ll just have to intuit when you’ve got me on the line. Don’t worry, I’ll give you a clue!
Trevor in Trimley's letter to Jeremy Vine
This is excellent. Isn’t Jeremy Vine an utter bastard?
The list of astonishingly stupid broadcasters, peddling government & SAGE lies, Is long.
Lots of people who previously we might have liked, admired or at least more or less trusted, are now doomed. Good.
Let’s see them justify their passionate defence of their steadfast support of lockdowns, masking, border restrictions, mass testing, bullying of those who even asked a question or to see the evidence underwriting any of this.
I want to hear their stance on vaccination reinforced. They’ve bullied anyone who pointed out that coerced vaccination let alone mandated vaccination is completely illegal. Bodily autonomy is not a flexible right, one that can be deleted on the grounds of “Don’t you know there’s a pandemic on?”
So let’s hear it, you BBC (& other mainstream media). Still up for “Anyone not getting vaccinated is a danger to society” and “Such selfish people must pay a price”, etc.
I am not a vindictive person. But it’s very important that those of us who knew it was all lies & said so need to relentlessly pursue those who did the perpetrators work for them.
This will happen again, unless it’s much more widely recognised that the so-called “trusted brands” are stuffed full with liars.
Best wishes
Mike
Thank you Mike for all your support and help bringing the FACTS out for us to see, I am a working mum fighting my corner and all I see around me are idiots going for the cull, it’s deeply distressing that family members have chosen to take the jabs but we all have a choice, I chose truth and am firm.
